The human body is said to have nine types of constitutions, such as cold, heat, phlegm-dampness, and so on. Do you know which constitution you have? Feel free to discuss in the comments!
Ingredients
Dried motherwort (Yimu Cao): 50 g (or about 100 g fresh motherwort)
White sugar or rock sugar: 100–200 g (adjust to taste)
Honey: appropriate amount (for flavor at the end)
Water: enough to cover the herb
Instructions
Prepare the herb
Wash the dried motherwort thoroughly to remove impurities.
If using fresh herb, cut it into small pieces.
Decoction (Boil the herb)
Place the motherwort in a pot and add enough water to cover it.
Simmer on low heat for 30–40 minutes, until the liquid reduces to about 1/3.
Filter the liquid
Strain through a fine mesh or cheesecloth to remove solid residues, keeping only the liquid.
Make the paste
Pour the filtered liquid into a clean pot and simmer on low heat.
Stir continuously to prevent burning.
Gradually add sugar and continue simmering until it thickens into a paste.
Add honey
Turn off the heat and add honey while the paste is warm (not hot) to preserve nutrients.
Mix well.
Storage
Pour the hot paste into a clean, airtight container.
Let it cool, then refrigerate. It can last 1–2 months.
Dosage
Take 5–10 g per dose, 2–3 times a day with warm water or tea.
Pregnant women should consult a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner before use.
💡 Tips
When simmering the paste, keep the heat low and cook slowly to achieve a thick consistency without burning.
Motherwort is slightly cold in nature, so the paste is more suitable for people with a warm constitution. If you have a cold body constitution type, you can add a little ginger juice or red dates during decoction to improve taste and provide warming effects.
